Sassa’s “Status Check” Warning To SRD Grant Beneficiaries
Millions of vulnerable people apply for the SRD grant monthly. Sassa has warned beneficiaries against conducting a Sassa status check on unauthorised websites.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has warned beneficiaries against checking their Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant status on websites other than the official Sassa website.
This comes after several websites have been set up purporting to be the grant payment agency and have been collecting beneficiary information.

Every month, Sassa undertakes several verification checks to ensure that people who applied for the SRD grant meet the eligibility criteria and can be approved for payment.
Once Sassa has completed these verification checks, beneficiaries can log into the official SRD grant website and check if they have been approved for SRD grant payments. When conducting a Sassa SRD grant status check, a beneficiary must provide their ID number and cellphone number.
Sassa warned that these fake websites promoting the Sassa status check service must not be used by grant beneficiaries. If beneficiaries use these websites, they will provide their personal information and put themselves at risk of fraud.
